I had a boxing coach many years ago in the early days of my amateur boxing career in New York City. I had lost my second ever fight to a man that didn’t seem to have much skill. Anyway, I was really pissed off that I had lost that match, again, only my second ever. But my coach asked me in the locker room what I had done wrong. I answered that I thought I had him beat, he was bleeding and looking gassed so I let my guard slip. He hit me HARD. He must have mustered everything left in him to throw that punch. And my ego weighed down my guard. Anyway, so my coach said “so you know what you did wrong, so they aren’t ‘losses’ they are ‘lessons’” and that has stuck with me through my whole life. As long as you learn from your beatings; they can actually serve you better than winning all the time. Thanks for all you do.
